BACKGROUND
Adesua Etomi was born on February 22, 1986 in Owerri, Imo State, as
the youngest of three siblings. Her father is a soldier from the Esan descent,
and her mother, an Engineer from the Yoruba origin. She attended Corona School,
Victoria Island, Lagos. Subsequently, she attended Queen’s College, Lagos, and
then moved to the United Kingdom at 13 for physical theatre, musical theatre and
performing arts studies in City college Coventry. In 2006, She graduated with
distinction in all the courses and proceeded to study drama and performance at
the University of Wolverhampton. Finally in 2009, she graduated with a first
class honours.👉
Personal Life
Adesua Etomi is married to Banky Wellington. They
got engaged in February, 2017 and got married in November. She loves to sing,
dance, swim and play guitar.
CAREER
When she was still discovering herself,
Adesua starred inThe crucible in 2004, Saro in 2013, and The Grim Tales in 2009.
However, these were minor theatre works that opened her eyes to her
possibilities. She started nurturing her talent, and that’s when she decided to
come back home. Immediately after jetting back to Nigeria, she tried her hand in
a short film The call, and a year later, she starred as Layo in brave. What put
her in the map was when she landed the role to play Debbie in the feature film
Knocking on Heaven’s Door. She completely bodied her character and even got
nominated for Golden Icons Academy Movie Awards. A year later, she landed the
role of playing ‘Muna’ in Falling. There was no denying that she was meant for
the acting life as success in the role led her to win a Golden Icons Academy
Movie Award. Adesua started getting noticed with brands and movie creators, and
she even got a chance to play Sheila in the famous Shuga series. Her career shot
off from there, and she remained booked and busy as she has now starred in over
80 movies and series. Etomi's film credits include The Arbitration, The Wedding
Party, and Falling. Her performance in Falling earned her the 2016 Africa Magic
Viewers Choice Award for Best Actress in a Drama. Other notable films she has
appeared in include A Soldier's Story (2015), Out of Luck (2015), and Couple of
Days (2016). Etomi played Shiela in the fourth and fifth seasons of Shuga, a
television soap opera about HIV/AIDS prevention. Etomi began starring as Amaka
Obiora, an undercover police officer, in Yemisi Wada's crime series LasGidi
Cops, which debuted in June 2016 on television. She was also featured on Vogue's
list of 14 global superstars.
